Clutch on WRX.

Not a very nice job this one.
WRX has done over 90k so time for a new clutch.
Only info I had, was that it was changed at 14k under warranty.
So 70 is meant to be the replacement interval.

OK, so when you remove the clutch you need to get this bar at the top of the gearbox out.
It is what the release fork pivots on.
Screw in a bolt & when it is tight, just pull the bar out.
What if the bolt breaks off?
Well you have this situation..

Get yourself some new drill bits & start drilling, I suggest you don't bother with carbon tips as they don't seem to work.  This hole was drilled with a new Bosch bit & drilled bigger with a 4mm Bosch bit.

Finally I was able to get a self tapping screw into it.

And it did pull out; this was a special moment.

Then to drop the gearbox out I put a garden rubbish bag full of old compost under there & bingo the box was out.

The thrust release bearing is a bit noisy .

And finally the moment of truth arrives.

Nah, the plate didn't need changing after all.
Must have been done when the car was serviced in the last 20 thousand miles I suppose.
Had been in there ages though, so maybe it needed changing.
Just trying to make myself feel better now.

Well it looks like it has worn a bit, but really, this job was not necessary.
Unless the pressure plate or flywheel are causing this outside edge wear.
I can't be bothered to change flywheel at the moment.
Lets see...

More motoring news soon.
